Description
The International Certificate of Competence or ICC as it’s commonly known is the internationally recognised standard for sailing. When sailing in another country you may be required to show that you comply with the maritime legislation of that country. The regulations for each country vary massively, and the ICC can help to overcome these difficulties.
RYA recognised training centres are authorised by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency to qualify individuals for the ICC. The ICC is available to the nationals of any country except individuals who are a National of a UNECE Country which has accepted Resolution 40. The current list is available here; (this is the list) http://www.rya.org.uk/knowledge-advice/boating-abroad/icc/Pages/icc-no.aspx
With the RYA Scheme the ICC falls just below Day Skipper practical and holders of the RYA Day Skipper can apply for the ICC without any further tests however it is recommended to if you have RYA Day skipper or equivalent higher certificate that you do the training and exam over a weekend of training.
